Seventh Grade Science
Responsibilities and Expectations
Success in this class comes from:
• Listening carefully
• Following directions
• Taking notes
• Participating in class discussions
• Asking questions
• Planning time for homework
• Completing assignments and handing them in on time
• Reviewing your notes daily
• Reading carefully
• Asking for help
• Good attendance. Much of our work will often be done in class and is difficult to make up.
• Think positively- you CAN do it
The basic rules in my classroom are:
• Be in your seat, prepared for class BEFORE THE BELL RINGS
• Be on task
• Raise your hand to speak – do not interrupt others or disrupt the lesson
• ASK QUESTIONS
• Be positive – no put downs or killer statements
• Treat the lab equipment properly
• Follow the lab rules and procedures
All students must be in their seats with their agenda, notebook, and pencil out before the bell rings. Failure to do so will result in a tardy. If a student receives three tardies in one week, an office referral will be filled out.
Discipline Plan: Hidden River Middle School follows the Make Your Day disciplince program.
Grading system:
Your grade will be based on a point system. Points will be earned with daily assignments, labs, quizzes, projects and test. This score will be assigned a grade according to the following grading scale.
Students are given ample warning, as well as study guides for unit tests. Please make sure that your student uses these resources.
Late Work: I will accept late work up until the chapter/unit test at a reduced score.
Attendance:
Attendance is very important in this class, as it is lab based. Labs must be made up in the lab (no dry labbing). In the event of a prolonged absence due to illness or other circumstances beyond your control, special arrangements will be made in individual cases. It is up to the student to schedule a missed lab. Labs can be made up before and/or after school. The student must make these arrangements with the teacher.
Organization:
One of the important parts of scientific investigation is being organized. We are going to organize ourselves by keeping a notebook. In the notebook, we will keep the following:
• Notes
• Project/lab instructions
• Handouts
• All work that has been handed back
Evaluation:
As in any class, there has to be some system of evaluation in place. To receive a passing grade you must:
• Follow all classroom rules and lab procedures
• Keep a neat and organized notebook
• Turn in neatly prepared and well- organized work
• Receive 70% or better on all daily work, labs, and test
• Participate
I can be reached before and after school if you have any questions. I can be reached via email: [email protected]
The website will be updated on Friday of each week.
I am looking forward to having a great year!!
